Tahany is from Sudan, and her work focuses on political and fiscal federalism, decentralized service delivery systems, and public sector reform. Before coming to HKS, Tahany was the policy and governance coordinator at AQUA4Sudan Partnership, working on rural integrated water resource management with smallholder farmers and pastoralists in Darfur. She also previously worked at an independent think tank based in Khartoum as a policy analyst focusing on public sector reform issues in Sudan. Tahany holds a Master of Public Policy degree from the University of Nottingham and a BSc in civil engineering from the University of Khartoum. Tahany is a winner of the 2016 Civil Society Leadership Award and a former member of the United States Institute of Peace Youth Advisory Council.
