Shelane served in the United States Army from 2008 to 2019, where she conducted security, intelligence, and combat functions in special operations and military police units. She is a veteran of the wars in Iraq, Afghanistan, and Syria, and also served an assignment at the U.S. Embassy in Ankara, Turkey. Her key accomplishments include selection for two highly competitive special operations programs, one assigning her to the first cohort of women to complete combat deployments with the 75th Ranger Regiment in Afghanistan and a second in clandestine intelligence. Originally from Spring Hill, Florida, Shelane now lives in Cambridge, Massachusetts, with her dog, Scout. She intends to pursue economic development opportunities in conflict and post-conflict zones to provide stability solutions.
