Dr. Precious Moloi-Motsepe is the founder and CEO of African Fashion International, as well as deputy chairperson and CEO of the Motsepe Foundation. She is a businesswoman and philanthropist who started her career in medicine.
Dr. Moloi-Motsepe is a passionate advocate for women’s rights, and promotes initiatives aimed at achieving economic, political, and social equality. As a doctor, she established the first women's clinic in Johannesburg, and received the Elizabeth Tshabalala Award for her cancer awareness efforts and pioneering work in women’s health in South Africa.
Dr. Moloi-Motsepe founded African Fashion International (AFI), in 2007, with a vision for taking African design and talent mainstream. AFI's mission is to be the leading fashion marketing and retail company from Africa, and their work involves raising the profile of talented African designers to global acclaim while creating an ecosystem that supports the industry.
AFI has presented African designers on international platforms like New York Fashion Week, Paris Fashion Week and Moscow Fashion Week. Dr. Moloi-Motsepe believes in the power of the fashion and the creative industry as a catalyst for contributing to economic growth and job creation, by building small businesses across the value chain and stimulating the growth of the middle class through the creative and manufacturing industries.
Dr. Moloi-Motsepe was recently awarded the Fashion 4 Development Franca Sozzani Award, at the United Nations General Assembly in New York, for her work in propelling African designers to international platforms and creating jobs for local artisans. Together with other leading figures in the fashion industry on the continent, she has just launched the African Fashion Federation to realize the multiplying potential in African fashion and build a supportive ecosystem that supports local talent.
