Mohammed A. Alshaya
- Mohammed Alshaya is Executive Chairman of the Alshaya group of companies, a family trading business which was founded in 1890 in Kuwait, and Chairman of Mabanee Company SAK, the development company behind Kuwait’s leading mall development, The Avenues.
- He was appointed Chief Executive Officer of Alshaya in 1990 and Executive Chairman in 2007, and has played an integral part in the development of the company, driving its rapid growth and expansion across the Middle East and North Africa, Russia, Turkey and Europe.
- Today, the Alshaya Group partners with around 70 of the world’s most recognised retail brands—including Victoria’s Secret, Starbucks, and H&M, among others—to operate nearly 3,000 stores across diverse customer sectors: Fashion & Footwear, Health & Beauty, Food, Optics, Pharmacy, Home Furnishings and Leisure & Entertainment. Alshaya employs more than 44,000 people from over 110 nationalities. The Group is also a major shareholder in development company Mabanee Company SAK.
Mr. Alshaya is a member of both the Supreme Council of Planning and Development and the Supreme Council of Education for the State of Kuwait. He is an honorary Commander of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire (CBE), in recognition of his services in developing British-Arab business, and a member of the International Business Advisory Council of London.
He serves on the Board of Trustees of the Arab Thought Foundation; the Foreign Direct Investment Council of Turkey; the CPL Leadership Council at the Harvard Kennedy School; and the International Leadership Board of Cleveland Clinic. He holds a BA in Marketing from Kuwait University and an MBA from the Wharton School of Business, where he is a member of the Wharton Board of Overseers.
