After receiving a degree in operations research and management science at UC Berkeley, Katie worked in various global operations roles at Nike, including leading the sourcing and commercialization of materials developed by Nike’s innovation team. In her time at Nike, Katie led multiple initiatives to scale sustainable technologies and reduce carbon footprint. She created a framework and process for embedding sustainability in procurement practices; enabled Nike to triple its consumption of recycled polyester in footwear by leveraging competition and scale to reduce cost; led sourcing for the company’s lowest carbon footprint shoe ever made; and drove the initial supply chain strategy for its most ambitious carbon target set to date. Her work in Nike’s supply chain team also gave her exposure to the opportunities and complexities that exist in corporate efforts to promote human rights internationally, an area of focus she is interested to explore further at HKS.
