Joseph attended Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University while earning his commission through the Air Force Reserve Officers’ Training Corps. Upon graduation, Joseph was awarded the Air Education and Training Command Commander’s Trophy, the Academic Excellence Award, and the Military Training Award, and was the class’s distinguished graduate. After pilot training, Joseph flew the F-15E Strike Eagle. While assigned to the 335th Fighter Squadron, he deployed to Afghanistan, where he flew seventy-seven combat missions in support of Operation Enduring Freedom. In 2013, he was selected as one of the first F-35A instructor pilots. His military awards include the 2016 National Public Servant of the Year Award, three Air Medals, one Commendation Medal, and six Annual Awards.
