Diego Garcia Blum

Born in Bogota, Colombia, and raised in Miami, Florida, Diego is a community activist, researcher, and engineer focused on issues disproportionately affecting discriminated-against populations. Diego’s work focuses on fighting for the safety and acceptance of LGBTQ people living in places where they are unsafe. Growing up, his family struggled to find a stable foothold with the U.S. immigration system until he was pushed to the edge of becoming undocumented. Under these circumstances, Diego became an immigration reform activist, publishing his story in the Huffington Post. Diego became a volunteer community organizer with the Human Rights Campaign, the nation’s largest LGBTQ rights organization, while working professionally as a nuclear engineer. He was the HKS student body president in 2020–2021, pushing diversity, inclusion, and belonging initiatives. He currently serves as the chair of the LGBTQ Caucus.
