Carlos is a first-generation Latino American who is a second-year law student at the University of Michigan and is pursuing a concurrent Master in Public Administration at the Harvard Kennedy School. He is a dual board-certified family nurse practitioner and psychiatric mental health nurse practitioner. He received the 2017 Community Engagement Award at the University of Miami, where he earned a MS in nursing. He also holds a BS in nursing from Miami Dade College and a BA in humanities from New College of Florida. Carlos has worked across different sectors in the healthcare field, from patient care to administration, and wants to pursue a career in mental healthcare policy reform and advocacy. He serves on the board of directors for the National Alliance on Mental Illness and NAMI-Miami Dade County.
