Avi Shina

Avi earned his MD at the Technion Israel Institute of Technology, cum laude, then began his career serving public health. Avi specialized in OB/GYN care at Sheba Medical Center and earned his MA in health systems administration from Ben Gurion University. Recognized for executive leadership potential, he was selected for the elite Sheba Talpiot Medical Leadership program, where he now develops innovative ideas for practicing medicine and administering healthcare. In the Israel Defense Forces, he has been a physician and a medical leader. Avi rose in combat medicine and command roles from the battalion to the division level, managing hundreds of medical personnel. Currently, he is head of the medical branch of the IDF Medical Reform Directorate, a task force transforming Israel’s military healthcare delivery. Avi also leads an independent multidisciplinary research team contributing to Israel’s response to the COVID-19 pandemic, and metrics they developed guide national policymaking today.
