Join us for a discussion on civic duty, public service, and leadership with Renan Ferreirinha Carneiro. Born and raised in a lower middle-class town near Rio de Janeiro, Carneiro studied Economics and Government at Harvard. Upon graduation, he returned to Brazil to run for “state deputy” from Rio de Janeiro State. Carneiro received 24,854 votes and, at age 25, was elected for the 2019-2022 legislature becoming the youngest MP in Rio de Janeiro.

Renan Ferreirinha Carneiro is one of the youngest MPs in Brazil and is president of the Economic Committee and vice-president of the Science and Technology Committee. He has been an education activist since 2013 when he founded O Formigueiro, the first crowdfunding platform solely for education in Brazil. In 2014, he began Mapa Educação, a movement that strives for a quality education for all Brazilians through youth protagonism; and lastly in 2017, Acredito, a political renewal movement that dreams of a new generation in politics that works for a more just, developed, and ethical Brazil. Renan is part of the leadership development programs of Estudar Foundation, Lemann Foundation and Renova BR.
