The civilian-military divide in this country manifests in various forms, and closing the divide requires a multi-faceted approach, often in the form of candid conversations. Join us for one such discussion between Dr. Vivek Murthy and MG William Rapp, who will explore public health issues encountered by veterans and active duty personnel, and the gaps of common understanding that exist between civilian and military communities. Students from all backgrounds and experiences are invited to attend.


ABOUT DR. VIVEK H. MURTHY
Vivek H. Murthy, MD, MBA, served as the 19th Surgeon General of the United States from 2014-2017. As Surgeon General, Dr. Murthy commanded the US Public Health Service Commissioned Corps, a uniformed service of 6,600 public health offices serving vulnerable populations in 800 locations domestically and abroad. During his tenure, he helped address critical public health issues, including the Ebola outbreak, the Zika virus, low rates of physical activity, and the explosion in e-cigarette use among youth. ABOUT MG WILLIAM E. RAPP, USA (Ret)
Bill Rapp is a Lecturer in Military Affairs in the Belfer Center at Harvard Kennedy School, the Faculty Chair of the Senior Executive program in National and International Security, and the Faculty Chair for the National Security Fellows program. He joined the faculty at HKS in 2017 after serving more than 33 years as an active duty Army officer, retiring as a Major General. More...
