BISG Talk with Sendhil Mullainathan and Bec Weeks on "Algorithmic Wisdom: Machine Learning and Behavioral Science" (RSVP Only)

Tuesday, April 10, 2018, 5:00pm to 6:30pm

Nye B, Taubman Building (5th Floor), Harvard Kennedy School

Join us for a Behavioral Insights Student Group talk with 'Scarcity' author Sendhil Mullainathan and visiting Harvard fellow Bec Weeks on "Algorithmic Wisdom: Machine Learning and Behavioral Science".

Description: So many technologies bring out the worst in us. The cell phone distracts us with texts and notifications. Social media tempts us with activities that ultimately feel unrewarding. We rarely read anything without surfing away after a few sentences (many people probably never reached this part of the abstract). We will argue that it need not be this way. We have been exploring how machine learning combined with personal data can help individuals become wiser. We will lay out the potential in the abstract as well as describe in detail one particular app that is near completion.

The first half of the event will be dedicated for to a talk, and the second half will be dedicated to Q&A with a group exercise.

Snacks and refreshments will be served.
