Apply to the BIG Doctoral Workshop

Harvard Kennedy School and Harvard Business School Monday, August 19, 2019

This conference aims to bring together doctoral students and faculty to develop interesting, cutting-edge ideas in behavioral research.

The day will focus on framing an idea and exploring creative methods for studying it. The aim is to have students leave the day having made tangible progress on a brand new or early-stage idea of their own. Therefore, all participants are asked to come with an idea or research question that can be "workshopped" throughout the day.

During faculty-led panels and interactive sessions, students will have the opportunity to get feedback on their ideas with leading academics in behavioral insights. Our panels will expose you to the art of framing research ideas and the science of creative methods (e.g., web scraping, text analysis, economic games, field experimentation) to turn an early-stage idea into a tangible project. Throughout the day, students will also get coaching from faculty to develop their research ideas.

This year's workshop will be led by Professors Kate Barasz and Ting Zhang.

Faculty Participants:

Alison Wood Brooks

Carey Morewedge

Michael Norton

Dave Rand

What do I need to include in my application?

In the application survey below, you should include your CV and a brief description of a brand-new or early-stage idea (max 100 words) that you want to develop during the workshop.
